Spring has been very exciting with a multitude of projects that are bold and beautiful! We have experienced a unique stretch of time where there are extra-remarkable projects we are creating for our clients, architects, or designers. A few of these projects are brought to you from behind the scenes at our newly renovated shop.

Custom Brass Staircase
Two years ago we built a custom stair structure for a client in New York. The stair had two landings and a custom radius that ran from the first story to the second story penthouse suit. Now, as a continuation of this project, we are working on the railing and handrail of this stair; a design we have never created before! The railing is made of a solid sheet of polished brass. The handrail; a brass rod! This expensive material and design have shown to be extremely challenging to create, due to the tight 6” radius’ and invisible fastener design requirements.
Our innovative craftsman are taking every challenge in stride on this project, and we have unearthed remarkable techniques as we meet each challenge.

They will be excited to get all this ‘gold’ dust off the floor!
Custom Wrought Iron Railing
A client in Philadelphia was renovating a beautiful traditional home and wanted a railing that looked like traditional wrought iron. We designed a beautiful iron railing with forged acanthus leaves and a flower center. The posts were also custom created, and brass balls were added to the tops. This was finished with an antique iron paint to emulate a project that was 100 years old.

Beautiful Scroll Railings for the Shore
We are amid creating a custom forged scroll work railing made from high grade aluminum. The main railing scroll panels are created from ¾ square bar with intermediate scrolls from 3/8 x ¾ square bar. All custom pickets with baskets plus a negative space at the top and bottom with custom forged double E-scrolls. This railing project has been a process in the making for years, and is now in its final completion stages with its installation starting before Memorial Day.

Challenging double 90° Stair
We were also asked to build a luxury stair for the side of a Bay front home to provide access from the backyard to a bay overlook terrace. A full radial stair was not feasible because it would have encroached on the property set back lines. To resolve this issue we designed a custom stairs that goes up two treads, then takes a 90° turn, goes straight for an additional 5 treads, then another radius 90° turn, and ending with two more treads to the terrace. This type of custom stair has been a geometric challenge as all the different angles and radius’s had to connect with minimal disruption in the sculptural flow of the stairs. What has made it even more challenging is to keep the walk line and the tread run within code requirements. The custom stair railing is 5/8 horizontal rod with 1 1/2 square solid posts that have a unique standoff style to give a floating aesthetic.

We are having an exciting spring of creating these projects and others like them; and look forward to providing them to our clients soon!
