HISTORIC RESTORATION

We were contacted by a client in Philadelphia about historic balcony railings and terrace railings. The original wrought iron railings were approximately 100 years old and some were in a state of neglect. The original balconies had been originally mounted to the wood structure with two rows of brick laid in front, making the mountings totally inaccessible.

The elements of rain, salt, and sun can be devastating to a beautifully crafted project, even if created by renowned Philadelphia artist and blacksmith Samuel Yellin or artist Edgar Brandt. While their work still adorns properties on the east coast and beyond, maintaining the beautiful iron fence, driveway gates, and railings can be a significant challenge.

While restoring a historic iron work of art can be daunting, the saticfaction of giving a new lease on life to a exceptional project is always rewarding.
