CASE STUDY

GLASS STAIRS

We were contacted by a New Jersey custom homebuilder who was building an exceptional home on the New Jersey shore. The interior designer showed a modern stair design that included radial steel stair stringers on either side of glass treads, curved glass railings, and brushed stainless handrail for both flights of custom curved stairs.

We are participating in the hottest trend in design — contemporary steel structure stairs. Progressive designers are looking for something different than the traditional stair and are thinking” outside the box.”

They can change up the stair structure profile with different risers, treads, railings, or cap-rail. Glass railings, polished stainless handrails, white oak treads and a modern steel stair structure is one combination. Another could be curved, dual saw-tooth stringer, stainless handrail, minimal design risers, curved glass railing and glass stair treads — or an industrial steel I-beam stair frame, thick wood slab treads, contemporary stair railing design in iron and modern profile bronze cap-rail with antique tarnish finish.

Call the trend transitional, modern, traditional, eclectic, or contemporary. Designers are really creating their design legacy with diverse materials, even masonry is being used. Compass has the knowledge and experience to create your next exceptional stair. We do our own precise measuring and template, then input everything into CAD so that designers and clients can be assured their design vision will be fulfilled in real time. A well-designed staircase offers much more than the functional purpose of getting from one floor to another. It’s often designed as an integral facet of design and focal point — the first piece seen by visitors. It makes a statement; it echoes, and often sets the “wow factor” and style for a space or building.
